Which switch? - Recommendation:

"I highly recommend the EMFSafeSwitch product as a safe and convenient way to protect yourself from electric fields.

These switches are built in a 508A UL listed industrial panel manufacturing shop and come in an enclosure ready to install which should only take an hour maybe two."

Which EMFSleepSwitch?

  • There are a few decisions and a couple of possible approaches in creating your EMF mitigated sleep sanctuary.

  • Two basic approaches are outlined below.

  • In both approaches, the body voltage kit (BVK) is used to confirm adequate mitigation. Some experts prefer the use of an oscilloscope, which is more accurate but also very much more expensive and impractical for the average person to use themselves.

  • Choose: “SP” (standard power), “NP” (neutral and power), “HP” (high power 240VAC) and/or “MP” (manual power) Like with most things in life there are different schools of thought with EMF mitigation. Turning off the power only, works for many people (our SP Switch), however, there are those that want the neutral and power turned off for maximum effect (our NP Switch). This helps reduce electrical artifacts (dirty electricity) and “cleans” up the ground. If you are earthing and using the house ground we recommend the NP Switch for a safer (cleaner) ground connection. For 240VAC circuits more high powered relays are required (our HP Switch) which only work in conjunction with an SP or NP. Sometimes remote control is not required and/or circuits are used occasionally or seasonally and a safe MANUAL option is called for (our MP Switch) . The MANUAL MP switch may  also be an option in a small house or for those on a tight budget. If you live in a country with single pole 240VAC electrical service like the UK, Europe, etc. you need our ISP (International Single Pole) switch.

  • Body Voltage Testing: In both approaches, the body voltage testing method is always used to identify circuits in the room being mitigated and to confirm that mitigation has been successful.  You will want your body voltage measurements to be less than 100 mV (milli-volts) for nighttime mitigation.  See our PDF for more information on this.  The testing process is necessary as wiring layout cannot be assumed to exactly match room layout and unidentified circuits may transit a room’s walls on the way to a remote area or appliance.  The body voltage testing process is not difficult and we have outlined that process in a PDF.  We sell the BVK (body voltage kit) for this process at our store.

  • High Power 240VAC:  If you have the need to disable power to a 240VAC electric dryer, stove, water heater or other high voltage appliance/device, you will need to add a “HP” switch.

  • Control strategy: All “SP” and “NP” units can be controlled by either the remote FOB or a hardwired switch. The RF remote FOB is an energy source much like a garage door opener (momentary pulse). As with the zoning option, the method of control is determined by a simple slide of a switch in the unit.  Units com with 2 remote FOBs. The “MP” MANUAL EMFSafeSwitch is operated at the unit.

  • A word about Essentials:  In reality, the only true essential would be life support equipment for a family member, medical equipment, security system. Refrigerators (with adequate seals) remain very cold overnight; smoke alarms and many things are available in battery powered versions. Most people leave heating and cooling on and typically the power to those systems is isolated from the sleeping areas.

TARGETED MITIGATION

Your house stays ON and you turn off your sleep areas at night.

Use the body voltage method to strategically and methodically determine exactly which electrical circuits you must turn off. Then, turn off just those targeted areas at nighttime. This approach determines the minimum number of circuits that must be disabled to mitigate your sleeping area.

Pros and Cons:
1. Usually less expensive (smaller unit).
2. Less power interruption: possibly more convenient.

IMPLEMENTATION

1. Start with the bedroom that will be turned off first each day Ie the children’s room.

2. Using the BVK to confirm adequate mitigation follow the proceudure given on the “PROCESS” page.  By turning off all of the identified circuits your body voltage measurement should be less than 100 mV.

(See our PDF)

3. Count the total number of circuit breakers that you need to turn off.

4.  Allocate each circuits to one of the zones.

HOLISTIC MITIGATION

Your house stays OFF and you turn on the room you are using.

Turn off most of the home or large areas surrounding the sleeping area, leaving on only the essentials1 and areas remote (if any) from the sleeping area. Then, confirm with the body voltage method that mitigation has been successful.

Pros and Cons:
1. Often more expensive innitially (larger unit).
2. Process is simple.
3. More consistent with Nature.
4. Power savings over time .

IMPLEMENTATION

Remember with the holistic approach everything is OFF except the room/zone you are in.

1.  Identify which circuits must be left on.

2.  Decide which rooms you want in each zone.

3.  Identify which circuits go to each of the four areas.

4.  Count the number circuits you are turning off

5.  Confirm with the BVK your readings.

WORKING FROM HOME

If you are home all day, this may change your mitigation approach.

Even though it may not affect your sleep area EMF reading you may want to add your home office circuits to your list.

Consider turning off your office while you are working in it! Sounds odd but you can reduce your daytime EMF considerably by doing this.  Run a shielded, grounded extension cord in from another room to plug in essentials like your computer.

Remember, most of your EMF load is the electric fields coming from the wires in your walls and during the day, added to that the power cords by your feet. Use the BVK to check your measurements and the effectiveness of your mitigation ideas.

Unplug what you can and move the things you need on as far a way from you as is practical, maybe to another room.

Why not have your home turned off while you work, except the one zone you are bringing the extension cord in from?

Our products

Make an informed decision - measure first.

Start with our BVK - (Body Voltage Kit) - If you are not working with a Building Biologist or an EMF Consultant you need to find which circuits to turn off. We suggest using our BVK to KNOW how many circuits in your home are affecting you and by how much, especially in your bedroom . . . you may be surprised. Find out which EMFSleepSwitch is best for you. A BVK is also great to check your work and other places you go/stay.
